<Q: Please elaborate on your language policy.> A key pillar of our product is "recyclability by design", by which we mean the 100% recycled PET bottle can be included in its entirety into PET recycling streams (including cap and label)
<Q: What makes a good packaging label? What information should be prioritised?> If the packaging item can be recycled at home and if so, which parts can or cannot be widely recycled. The new OPRL guidelines are helpful
<Q: Can you describe your approach, or the approach of your organisation, to supporting/point-of-sale information with regard to plastic packaging?> At Garçon Wines we strongly support POS communication around plastic packaging that shows the carbon savings vs other packaging materials, and also the recyclability of the packaging.
<Q: Are there any examples of labelling that you are especially proud of? If you aren't involved in design, please tell us about some packaging/labelling that you especially like, and why.> I particularly like how household cleaning brands have been selling the concentrate that click/locks onto bottles and is topped up with tap water. The simplicity of space saving/transport efficiencies seems like a no brainer. Plus some bottles, while shrinkwrapped, have been made from rPET which can be recycled once the wrapping is removed (clearly instructed to do so, via messaging and perforations)
<Q: What information would you wish to be included on packaging labels, if e.g. space and branding weren't an issue?> Clear environmental benefits of the packaging choice, beyond just carbon emission reductions.
<Q: Is there anything that you purposely avoid including on packaging labels?>
<Q: What do you most want consumers to take away from the text on packaging labels? Is there any messaging that you feel isn't landing with consumers?> I don't believe simply providing a number of CO2 or water saving has impact, it needs context e.g. CO2 = running a car for X many miles or water savings = X number of showers etc
<Q: Do you have any other thoughts or comments you would like to share?> Garçon Wines believe very strongly that a significant amount of work needs to go into highlighting the difference within plastics and avoiding the over simplification of an extremely complex group of packaging materials. Those such as rPET should be differentiated from others, such as PVC and other problematic plastics, that should be replaced in packaging.
